Designer as Facilitator

The Lamlifew Tribal Women's Association (LVWA) is the first duly SEC-registered (Securities and Exchange Commission-SEC) cultural organisation completely initiated and operated by a Philippine indigenous community. Helen L. Lumbos mobilised the women-folk of her village and steered the group toward their cultural renaissance. Saving important facets of their culture that are rapidly vanishing like weaving, music and dance they were able to recapture their sense of identity and secured it for the next generation of B'laans. Helen credits the success of their program on their sincerity and willingness to learn, stating that it was their only capital. Seven years on, their investment has reaped rewards way beyond what they have initially staked. A carefully woven network of affiliate organisations from the third sector, private individuals and government agencies were instrumental to the success of the community initiative.
